HTML5 has finally arrived on the scene! Nope, this time its finally finalized.

What is HTML5?

HTML5 is the latest version of the most popular web technology that utilizes simple idea to share information on the web using either static or dynamic pages.

It is now capable of serving content rich applications independently with the simple philosophy of "write once, run everywhere." Sounds familiar"?

The web requires more complicated ideas to run and the HTML5 SVG and math annotations(MathML) always come to the rescue.

The History Behind HTML5

The first static web page saw the light in 1989 when renowned physicist Tim Berners-Lee created the first version of HTML. The main objective back then is to link chunks of information in the form of static HTML pages. Now the technology is grown into such an amazing state of the art technology that it threatens the existence of java in the web world. Another similar technology for the Web Flash can now finally rest in peace.

The Open web platform is finally kicking in with the HTML5 on the horizon of the whole platform. Open Web Platform is the term used by the W3C

The umbrella term "Open web platform"governs  the development of all the major web technology under one umbrella. The term "Open Web Platform" is defined as a platform for innovation, consideration and cost efficiencies.

When the first drafts of HTML5 start flowing in, W3C and the whole HTML5 community was skeptical of the release date of the final draft. The community was horrified at the claims of W3C that HTML5 will see the day of the light in 2022.

HTML5 is always in working condition, but most of the features were in non-recommended state. Now, with the final draft, every developer can feel free to experiment and implement the full power of HTML5 before thinking twice.

The notion of being released earlier can be a tricky one to get excited about, but it's a great milestone for the Open Web platform. Many web developers would argue that HTML5 was already ready, but major browsers still need time to completely implement all the latest specification in the browser.

Current Browsers Support

html5test.com is a great website that features automated HTML5 support testing. You can go to the above site and check how much the current browsers support HTML5.

The current leader in HTML5 support is Chrome(v37) with a score of 512 out of 550. The score of other major browsers are as follows:

  • Opera: 504
  • Firefox: 475
  • Safari: 397
  • Internet Explorer: 376

Note: The scores reflect the current score and might improve in the future.

HTML5: The change

With the final draft, HTML5 has finally entered into rich internet applications both mobile and cloud-driven.

According to W3C CEO Jeff Jaffe, "HTML5 brings the next generation of the Web". The transition has been ecstatic i.e. from a static webpage to fully functional dynamic webpage capable of rendering almost anything the developers can think of.

The new HTML5 Canvas brings amazing graphics rendering capabilities and with final specifications out, things are ought to get better from here.

The Final draft is a mammoth 1370 pages, which can easily point to the work done behind it.

So, what's next? Even though, we have just started, the web is just at the beginning and more exciting things are bound to come. Do, tell us, what you thing about HTML5 and its future by commenting below.
