Samsung Galaxy Edge: Another experiment from Samsung

Samsung entered the phablet market 3 years ago and now to keep up with the new competition released the new Samsung Galaxy Edge. The first glance of the device delivers much the same feeling as that of Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The only difference being “the side edge”.

The Edge Technology

The unique selling point of the device is of-course its “Edge” technology. The formula seems to target curious consumers who want to try something new, but for many it might be another attempt by Samsung to innovate.

The edge is the result of continuous innovation done by the Samsung team and the new designs do look promising. Basically, the device offers the same hardware compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with a twist of the edge added into it.

Samsung Galaxy Edge was first showcased on Sep 3, 2014 as one of the variants of Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The South-Korean company is undoubtedly the front-runner in the innovative mobile design and keeps experimenting with their products.

The device feels similar to Note4 and is built on a metal chassis. The phablet do look premium because of all the attention given to its design.

Samsung Galaxy Edge: Display

Another unique selling point apart from the “edge” is its 5.7 in Super AMOLED display, featuring a QUAD-HD (2560 x 1400) resolution. The display is quite impressive, when the pixel count reaches 515 per inch. The display in turn can blind a few (not) with its super-rich brightness and color depth.

The display analysis doesn’t end here, Samsung partnered with Oculus to develop the Gear VR headset, which in turn use the potential of the display currently offered. The Gear VR headset is a virtual device and holds promise in improving user experience.

Samsung Galaxy Edge: Camera

The camera department has also been dealt with the “hammer of improvement”. Both, frontend and backend cameras now sport improved feature set. The frontend now sports a 3.9 megapixel camera with an improved aperture of f/1.9. The backend camera is now 16 megapixels. The inclusion of a wide 90-degree lens increases the capacity of the device to take better “selfies”.

Samsung Galaxy Edge: Battery

Batteries are also improved in Samsung Galaxy Edge which currently hosts a capacity of 3200 milliamps-hour (mAh) compared to 3000 mAh battery in Note 4. Samsung has also taken care of battery saving feature called “ultra power saving mode”. The mode main aim is to squeeze a 24 hours runtime from just 10 percent of the charge. The Edge also boosts from the fast charging, charging up to 45% in just 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy Edge will see the light on 29 October with a price tag of “$1249”.
